Prevention and control of non-communicable diseases in Ghana

This challenge is in phase: Incubate business

How might we prevent and control NCDs in Ghana in order to relieve the Ghanaian health care system?

Non-communicable diseases (NCDs) – diseases which are not transmissible from person to person such as heart disease, cancer, diabetes and chronic respiratory diseases – account for 43 % of all deaths in Ghana. The majority of NCDs are preventable which is an urgent challenge more than ever because people living with NCDs are highly vulnerable to COVID-19.

The incidence of non-communicable diseases contributes significantly to Ghana's disease burden. Diseases such as diabetes, hypertension and stroke affect all age groups and social classes. The care and treatment of the diseases causes high costs and the awareness and knowledge about the diseases and factors are limited. An relieve of the Ghanaian health care system seems to be urgently needed.
