Understand
Ghana’s refrigeration and cold-chain sector is becoming increasingly important across fisheries, agriculture, food processing, retail, hospitality, and food distribution. With growing demand for temperature-sensitive products, reliable and efficient cooling infrastructure is essential to reduce post-harvest losses, preserve product quality, and strengthen local value chains. At the same time, many existing refrigeration systems are energy-intensive, rely on outdated technologies, and lack modern controls, while businesses face high electricity costs and growing pressure to transition away from high-global-warming-potential refrigerants.
These challenges create significant opportunities to modernize Ghana’s refrigeration and cold-chain sector. Companies are increasingly looking for solutions that can:
- Improve the energy efficiency of existing and new refrigeration and cold-storage systems through optimized compressors and fans, variable-speed drives, smart controls, sensors, and remote monitoring.
- Support the transition to climate-friendly refrigerants and more sustainable refrigeration technologies.
- Strengthen cold-chain infrastructure, technical capacity, maintenance services, and temperature-controlled logistics.
To unlock these opportunities, local stakeholders are looking for reliable technology providers, engineering companies, service providers, and business model innovators to jointly develop scalable solutions. Through the Lab of Tomorrow Business Development Programme, interested German and European companies are invited to explore new products, services, and business models for the modernization of Ghana’s refrigeration and cold-chain sector.
