Prevention and control of non-communicable diseases in Kenya

This challenge is in phase: Sustainable Business

How might we improve chronic disease prevention and control in Kenya?

Kenya is experiencing a transition in its disease burden from infections to noncommunicable conditions. Non-communicable diseases (NCDs) are a major public health concern with significant social and economic implications in terms of health care needs, lost productivity and premature death.

01

Understand

Non-communicable diseases (NCDs) account for 27% of total deaths and for 50% of total hospital admissions in Kenya. Major risk factors for NCDs include tobacco use, harmful use of alcohol, unhealthy diets and physical inactivity. Fortunately, with appropriate expertise and resources, NCDs are largely preventable.
