How might we improve access to medicines and medical diagnoses in Kenya?
Kenya faces the central challenge of improving access to medicines to low-income populations, especially in rural and remote areas. This challenge is the result of a variety of problems, such as limited availability of high-quality products, inefficient demand planning, long lead times, lack of appropriate storage space, as well as poor infrastructure.

In Kenya, 53% of healthcare costs are borne by the consumer when accessing services, thus making access to healthcare most difficult for the rural and poor. According to the WHO, in 2010, half of all outpatient visits in Kenya occurred with a private healthcare provider, and 30% of all inpatient visits took place in a private healthcare facility.
