Meds on Demand by Maisha Meds is a digital tool that provides patients with access to quality healthcare products by helping healthcare providers procure quality medications, manage sales and inventory, view prices, inventory levels, and delivery times. In addition, Meds on Demand functions as a digital medication reimbursement platform through which products can be subsidised.
The venture is based on the business model that pharmacies pay a small commission fee on placed orders and that collected data can be sold to regulators and pharma firms additionally.
Up until now, 1.5 million patients and more than 350 pharmacies could be reached by Meds on Demand. The venture was able to secure more than 4,5 million € in funding, whereof the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and USAID each invested 1.5 million in 2019. In 2020, Maisha Meds expanded to Tanzania and Uganda, started a two-year pilot to improve antenatal care for pregnant women and an Evaluation with UC Berkeley concerning Malaria.
